Clocks are placed in strategic places in our homes for one basic purpose; to help us keep track of time. Desk clocks are placed on our working tables to remind us dreaded deadlines. Kitchen clocks assist us so we could have accurate meal preparation. Alarm clocks are here to tell us to get up and start the day right. Clocks are indeed convenient life companions.

But clocks need not be boring as they carry out their function. They could also be fun and attractive. Homemakers these days have variety of choices of these decorative clocks. They come in wide arrays; in shapes, colors, designs and background. Decorative clocks blend in almost any kind of houses and environment. They could be found in apartments, a house, a trailer, almost any abode. Decorative clocks come in all kinds of shapes, round, rectangular, square, and other unique and novelty shapes such as kidney shapes and weird Picasso like shapes. Of these shapes, still the most preferred shaped are those round shaped wall clocks. They are made of materials like wood, metal, plastic, stainless steels, and so on. Because of their aesthetic value, many of these decorative clocks are more expensive that your usual clocks. They are rarely found in your local stores. You are most likely to find these dials in stores that specialize in decorative clocks. Early favorites include black and burgundy modern designs. These days, they come in other hues too.

Decorative clocks for children are also gaining popularity. Most kids and parents as well prefer Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and other cartoon and fantasy characters. These lovely dials add more life to the room. Fun and colorful kinds that come in all shapes and sizes are available for interested buyers. They are usually cheaper too. Cuckoo clocks remind us of the chimera of the countryside. Cuckoo clocks are said to have originated in Black Germany. Due to its popularity it has too many adaptations worldwide. Still the most common designs feature a bird encased in a box that pops up at the opening or the trap door every time the hour strikes and immediately disappears once the striking is done.
